Prisma Dress by Love Notions

It has been a minute since I have been so excited about something I have made, so I wanted to document it! I received this imagining French Velvet from Mily Mae Fabrics, and I knew my 13 year-old daughter Braelyn would love to wear it!

I have seen a few different drop-waisted dresses that I wanted to replicate. I feel like this is such a cute style for teens. Lucky for me I have a cute 13 year old that trusts my fashion sense šŸ™‚

To make the drop-waisted dress, I started with the Prisma Dress by Love Notions (check the bottom of the post for a discount code).

My daughter, Braelyn, measured a size 14. I knew I wanted the dress to be relaxed, slightly oversized; however, I did not want the neck and sleeve to look baggy or too big. I traced the neck, sleeve, and armscye to her actual size, size 14, but then graded out to a size 16 in the waist and hips. In addition, I added 1″ in length to the at the bottom of main bodice portion to make it a longer drop waist.

For the skirt portion, I used the pleated skirt piece that came with the pattern, although I did take a little of the width off of the skirt pattern piece, making the skirt double the width of the bodice. Once I attached the skirt to the bodice, I adjusted the length. I wanted to keep it just above her knees.

I am trying in love with how this looks on her, and even more importantly, she loves how it looks on her šŸ™‚
