Fisterra Dress by Itch to Stitch

Well, I am back after taking a few months off from pattern testing. Life has just been busy and pattern testing takes a pretty big chunk of time, so it just haven’t made it a priority. However, when I saw the testing call for the Fisterra pattern, I knew I needed to make the time!

Kennis, the designer behind Itch to Stitch, really is one of the most pattern designers I have come across. The pattern construction is always top notch and the fit is almost always spot on, even in the first version of the test. She is very talented.

So with that said, I would like to introduce you to the Fisterra Dress

The Fisterra Top/Dress comes with a Peplum top view or the Dress view. I obviously choose the dress 🙂

I made the dress using a Rayon Challis that I had in my stash. I had just over 4 yards of the fabric, so I used it for both the primary fabric and the lining. I made a size 0 in the bodice and graded to a size 6 in the hips, per my body measurements. I also shortened the bodice 3/4″ at the shorten/lengthen line, which is a standard adjustment I make (I am 5’2″ and I am short-waisted)>

The bodice has a relaxed fit with a few subtle gathers. The back has 6-7 rows of shirring in the waist, which gives it enough stretch that no other closures are needed. Yes – you read that correctly. I woven pattern without a zipper or buttons!!

It is also worth mentioning the sleeve! I love a fun sleeve detail! The Fisterra has a great pleated sleeve detail that I am in love with 🙂

But what you can’t tell by looking at the outside of the dress, is just how amazing it is from the inside.

The dress is fully lined in the most amazing way. The lining has an interfaced facing, and darts to help reduce bulk. In addition the back waistband of the lining is also shirred, which gives that back waistband more structure.

In fact, I love the lining so much that I will even show you 🙂

Obviously, it would be even prettier if I had ironed it, but you get the drift 🙂

All in all, I am so glad that I made the time for myself to make this dress that I am so proud of making. I found myself more and more excited with each step of creating, and I was able to bask in the joy of sewing.

Check out the Fisterra and all of the other Itch to Stitch patterns, and I hope you love them as much as I do!
