Atenas Jacket by Itch to Stitch
Hello Everyone! I have been meaning to share the details on my latest make for some time now, but life just kept getting in the way. But I am here now 🙂
Anyway, I am here to share the details on the Atenas Jacket by Itch to Stitch. I have made a lot of things over the years and I honestly think that I am the proudest of this jacket. I absolutely love it!
I have been wanting a good, casual jacket for some time now and I haven’t been able to find one in the stores that fit well and that wasn’t super expensive. When Kennis with Itch to Stitch posted the tester call for the Atenas Jacket I knew right away I needed to test the pattern. Mostly because I work best with a deadline, but also because I trust her patterns so much that I knew it would turn out great.
I had a few ideas for fabric options, including using thrift store jeans, but in the end I fell in love with this corduroy from JoAnn fabrics. I chose the Star Fish Tan color, so it would be nice and neutral. I love how it looks with jeans! Plus, the corduroy is a great option if you are nervous about the visible top-stitching, like I was, because lets be honest, my machine really is not that great.
Now let’s talk about the pattern. The pattern has all the classic details you would think a denim jacket should have, including chest pockets with flaps, single-welt pockets, flat-felled seams and top-stitching, I chose to do the simplified seams, as opposed to the flat-felled seams, but you can’t even tell.
I did make a few adjustments for my body, including grading from a size 0 (B cup) in the chest to a size 4 in the hips. I also took out one inch in length right below the waist line to adjust for my short torso (I am 5’2″ for reference).
The pattern instructions were amazing, as you would expect with Itch to Stitch patterns. I particularly loved the instructions for the welt pockets. I have never been so proud of a welt pocket, and I have attempted many welt pockets over the years. Kennis even created a very detailed post on her blog, I will link it here.
I finished the jacket off with jeans buttons. I used the Industrial Press from Goldstar and it worked perfectly!
So to wrap up , I would definitely recommend the Atenas Jacket Pattern. It was more on the time-consuming side of projects, but it was so worth it! I cannot wait for our AZ weather to cool down so I can show off my new coat!
