Sewing for Girls

Lawson Dress by Heidi and Finn

Hello Everyone! Its been a long minute since I sat down and wrote a blog post, but its time!!

I have been trying to sew more for my girls lately, as the school year just started and they are craving a fresh, new wardrobe. My jaw dropped the first time I saw a sneak peak of the Lawson Dress by Heidi and Finn Patterns. It was the perfect addition to my pattern collection. I mean look at it!

I love the loose, boho style that can be styled for both summer and fall. And of course that button front has my heart! All 15 of them 😉

And lets not forget about the pockets!!

As for fabric, I used a mystery cotton-blend that I had in my fabric stash. I picked up this fabric years ago at my local thrift store. It did have decent drape, but it was also quite sturdy.

The pattern suggests light to mid-weight woven fabric such as cotton, twill, linen, chambray and suiting. In addition, it helps if the fabric has good drape that won’t get too bulky when gathered.

I do want to note that I sewed this dress as a pattern tester. I made a size 8, based on her chest measurement, and then added 3″ in length. I believe the final pattern had some additional length added to it, so I will check the length again next time I make it.

That’s a wrap! A huge shout out to Heidi and Finn Patterns for letting me test yet another amazing pattern!!
