Gobi Culottes by Itch to Stitch
I love finding those patterns that push you out of your comfort zone and challenge you, both with the construction and the style!
Itch to Stitch patterns always impress me with the fit and construction and the Gobi Culottes are no exception! The finishes are gorgeous and the details make you feel like a pro 🙂
The Gobi Culottes pattern was originally drafted to hit right above the knees, but the pattern explains how to lengthen the pattern to make them any length. I decide to add 18″ and make them ankle length for a fun Fall look.
As for Fabric I went with a Linen/Rayon Blend from JoAnn Fabrics. I chose the Potent Purple color. I love this fabric for the pants because the fabric still has some drape, but is sturdy enough to work with the waistband details and the button fly.
I did make a few pattern modifications that are specific to my body. My natural waist measures for the size 0 and my hips measure for the size 4. I graded the waistband from a 0 to a size 2 and then graded the main portion of the pants from a size 2 to a size 4. In addition, I used the top lengthen/shorten line provided in the pattern to take out 1/2″ in length between the waist and the hips. Next time I will take out my normal 1″ in length. I am only 5’2″ and I have a short torso, so I typically need to adjust for that in all of my projects.
But now lets talk a bit about styling…
As I mentioned, these pants are a bit out of my comfort zone and I had no idea if I would be able to pull off this style or not, but I figured it was worth a try 🙂
These pants ended up being pretty fun to style. For me personally, I love the nicely defined, high waist. I found a few different shirts in my closet that I played with a bit.
I first went with a casual look, because lets be honest, I dress pretty casual on a daily basis.
I paired my Gobi Culottes with a semi-fitted tee and I felt like I would be able to wear this outfit for my daily mom life.
Knowing that eventually it will be Fall, even here is Arizona, I played around with adding a classic denim shirt.
Now, knowing that these pants would probably see a few date nights, I tried dressing it up a bit too.
I paired it with my True Bias Nikko Top that I made in a light-weight rib knit fabric from Fabric.com. I think this might have ended up being my favorite pairing.
Finally, I decided to go way out there and trying it with a cropped chambray shirt with a very dramatic sleeve. This combination definitely brought out the sass in me and might be a really fun outfit for a fun night out.
It was fun finding different ways to style these statement pants and I cannot wait for cooler weather so I can swish my way all around town in my Linen Gobi Culottes!
So, tell me, which outfit is your favorite??

Such a fun pattern! I also like them paired with your striped shirt best. 🙂
